Paradise on Earth. Snow-capped peaks, shimmering Dal Lake, and tulip-filled meadows make Kashmir the crown jewel of Indian travel.
About Kashmir
Kashmir is the Himalayan valley that Mughal emperors called heaven. Srinagar's Dal Lake carries painted shikaras and carved cedar houseboats, Gulmarg runs one of Asia's highest gondolas, and Pahalgam's pine-ringed meadows are a trekker's easy introduction to the mountains.
From Kolkata, most travellers fly to Srinagar via Delhi or direct on select days, then move between Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg by private cab. A 6-8 day itinerary covers the valley comfortably without rushing the mountain roads.
March to May for tulips and mild weather; September to October for golden chinar autumn; December to February for snow and skiing.
No visa needed for Indian citizens. Carry a valid photo ID; foreign nationals need standard Indian visas.
About 3.5 to 5 hours by air (direct or one stop). Recommended stay: 6 to 8 days.
Top things to do in Kashmir
